Hi! I’m Lisa. I am so glad you are here.
Worship is a way of life. I wholeheartedly believe it affects every area. Nothing is exempt. My passion is to encourage others to notice God and worship Him in and through every area of our lives, surrendered to Him… by His grace and for His glory!
It is my hope that you will find inspiration and encouragement for this here. My desire is to write that which leads you to:
- A deep abiding love of Jesus
- A vibrant, growing relationship with Him
- A Biblical worldview
Topics here may be widespread. God is sovereign over all things and Christ is central in everything — shouldn’t we seek His heart on all things? Whether I write a devotion, a poem, comment on life events, current events – and yes, sometimes controversial – my heart and goal is to seek His truth in the matter and yield to Him and the authority of the Word of God.
Is there anything more valuable I can share than the life-giving truth found within scripture? Even when writing fiction, poetry, or prose, I pray that truth be the foundation and compass.
A dear friend and mentor initially dubbed me “The Pondering Woman” because I’m always thinking deeply. And I like to inspire others to think deeply about things as well. So…
I hope you find my writing somewhat thought-provoking.
I am a writer
It took me a long time and much encouragement to actually say those words. Looking back, I guess I should’ve recognized it a long time ago. I’ve done a ton of copywriting without realizing that’s what it was.
The first thing I remember writing was a book of poems in the 2nd or 3rd grade. My teacher thought so much of it that she put it on display in the school library.
Years later, my 9th grade English teacher read one of my short stories aloud to the class and told me I had a lot of promise as a writer. I joined the yearbook committee and also began to write lyrics and music.
As an adult I began writing devotionals for a Mom’s group in the Atlanta area. Years later I began writing devotionals for the worship team I was part of, based on the scriptural truth in the worship songs we would be leading each Sunday.
At the same time I was beginning college courses. This kept me consistently immersed in research and writing for 7 long years. I must’ve missed all that writing because I started my first blog just a few months after I earned my first degree in 2012. All the while, I was also writing content for distribution pieces and newsletters as part of my job in church ministry.
My blog is where I practice writing publicly. And I must admit, it’s one of the scariest things I’ve ever done.
Family
I deeply love my husband. He is my best friend and my greatest encourager. Between us we have 5 children; 2 daughters of whom I had the honor of giving birth, another daughter and 2 sons whom I am blessed to be step-mom, a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law, 2 sweet grandsons, and plenty fur-babies.
In a very short span of time I began navigating the blended family life… then came empty nest syndrome and not too far behind I experienced the joys of being “Grammy.” It’s been quite an adventure and challenge. Even so…
God has been soooo good. He redeems! He is faithful and true and I will share about Him as long as I have breath.
I currently live in North Carolina with my husband, Brian, and our spoiled rescue morkie, Max.
Ministry
I love the body of Christ and love serving His bride. In addition to ministry to my family, I started leading Bible Study in 1995, and began teaching, speaking, and leading worship at women’s events around 1998. A Precept-trained leader, I love to help others discover the riches of God’s Word for themselves and lead women in the study of God’s Word.
Over the last 20+ years the Lord has allowed me to gain invaluable experience (and blessings!) as both a lay leader and church staff in many areas of ministry; Worship, missions, children and VBS, youth, senior adults, discipleship, women’s ministry, event and conference organization.
He has given me wide experience in the body and I know it’s not wasted. Among them, my “sweet spots” are writing, leading worship and bible study, missions, speaking, and event planning.
I currently have the great joy of serving women at Calvary Baptist in Winston-Salem, NC in women’s ministry leadership and Bible study. I also serve in worship ministry.
Education
I am forever learning. I returned to college as a single mom in 2007 and earned 2 degrees; Bachelors in Religion: Biblical Studies and Church Ministries, with special interests in Worship and Judaic Studies, and a Masters in Human Services Counseling: Executive Leadership, from Liberty University.
