Today I am inspired
To share thankfulness with verse
As I notice the setting
From which I disperse…
Cat curling up in sunbeams
Dog stretched out across feet
Fireplace glowing by a chair
Pondering in cozy seat
Wide picture window declaring
Sunlight’s beginning to end
Leaves of all colors
Admired from within
Scripture and books
Memories, dreams, and quotes
Surrounding the heart
Inspiring words, melodies, and notes
Ceilings reach high above stillness
Encouraging undisturbed thought
Fingers embrace the keyboard
Words on pages fitfully caught
Silence making demands
On heart, soul, and mind
Drawing out creativity
To make visible to eyes
Exposing to those
Who would listen or read
Intimate stirrings
Once captured freed
Thankful for simple gifts
Allowing inspiration and focus
Present each day
Yet today truly noticed
Thank You, Lord, for simple things I so often don’t notice. Thank You for the quiet of the day that so often affords rest. Your provision goes beyond the roof over my head, the meal on the table, a home, and a bed. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit who weaves the many threads…a lifetime of memories, and learning the things You’ve said. Thank You for how You inspire this pondering heart… to meditate on You as You daily impart. Help me be a blessing to others through what I write. A vessel of praise, truth, and grace, shining the life-changing light of Christ.

The Story Behind the Poem
I was writing a series on Thankfulness during the month of November, leading into Thanksgiving Day. As I sat in my cozy chair by the fire thinking of the things I was thankful for, I began to notice the setting I was in and the stillness of the early morning. As I just looked around my living room I just wrote what I saw and felt. It happened to come out in verse form.
